Kansas State University (KSU, Kansas State and K-State) is a publicly-owned research university that is land-granted and has its main campus located in Manhattan, Kansas, United States. It was founded as the state's land-grant university in 1863. It was the first institution of public higher education within the State of Kansas. It boasted a record-setting number of students enrolled at 24,766 during the fall 2014 semester.
The university is classified under "R1 Doctoral Universities with High research activity".Kansas State's academic programs are administered by nine colleges, which include the College of Veterinary Medicine and the College of Technology and Aviation located in Salina. Kansas State University Campus
The campus that is the main one of Kansas State University in Manhattan is now spread across the area of 668 acres (2.70 km2). It is a historical campus and has more buildings that were constructed prior to 1910 than the other college in Kansas. Holtz Hall, built-in 1876, is among the oldest free-standing building on the campus. However, the oldest structure located on the campus is an initial part that was Seaton Hall, which now is Seaton Court, facing the courtyard of Hale Library and Eisenhower Hall. It was initially named the Industrial Workshop. This section of Seaton Hall is the oldest remaining building for education located on the Manhattan campus.
The most distinctive architectural element in The main architectural feature of the Manhattan campus is the use of limestone that is native to the area. This includes the iconic structure at Kansas State University, Anderson Hall, constructed in three phases between 1877 and 1885. Anderson Hall, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been home to the administration offices of the university for over 100 years. Dickens Hall was constructed in 1908 and is currently home to the department of statistics and philosophy. There were many historic buildings on the campus in 1986. Kansas State has also added more than two million of square feet (186,000 square meters) and new facilities on the campus, which includes an expanded library, a brand new art museum and the plant science building. Several of the campus buildings were severely destroyed by an EF4 tornado on the 11th of June in 2008. Damage estimates reached over $20 million. K-State has paid the deductible of $5 million for their insurance policy to fix all damage.
Since 2014 the main campus has undergone extensive renovations to accommodate changes in the infrastructure. The campus is also embracing an increased walking environment by closing many of the roads that are accessible to cars.
