Gauhati University

Gauhati University (also known as GU) is a collegiate, public university in Guwahati. It's located in Assam, India, and it was established under an Act of the Assam Legislative Assembly on 26 January 1948. It is the oldest university in Northeast India.

National Assessment and Accreditation Council have awarded its grade "A." Gauhati University was founded in 1948 with 18 affiliated colleges and eight Post Graduate departments. Today, it has 39 Postgraduate Departments and IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning), a constituent Law and Engineering College. It is home to 341 colleges that offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Arts, Science and Commerce. Gauhati University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

Gauhati University Campus

The university is located in Jalukbari, Guwahati's city area. The campus is situated on the south side of the hillock, while the Brahmaputra River flows to the north. The area around the campus has been transformed into a small community, known now as "Gopinath Bardoloi Nagar". The hostels house approximately 6000 students.

There are 22 halls for students and the residences of officers, teachers, and staff. All the necessary civic amenities, such as water supply, health service, street lighting and street lighting, guest house, post office, branch of State Bank of India or United Bank Of India, canteens and canteens, are available. Regional center and library

The Gauhati University Central Library Extension Building houses the North Eastern Regional Centre of the Indian Council of Historical Research. This is the only GU regional center, along with Bangalore ICHR Region Centre.

The Krishna Kanta Handique Library at the university is a designated "Manuscript Conservation Center" (MCC) under National Mission for Manuscripts, which was established in 2003.

It is home to the largest Assam library, with 850,000 books, magazines and journals. It also houses approximately 5,000 rare and priceless manuscripts over 300 years old.
