It was established in 1974. University of Hyderabad is a Central University that is recognised by the UGC. The University is accredited to the "A" Grade by the NAAC. Furthermore it is also an affiliate of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). In 2021, the university was ranked as 5 for Mass Communication by India Today. In addition however, in 2020 it was ranked as a 6 University by NIRF. The University currently provides integrated, PG and doctoral courses in the areas of Engineering Management, Science, Management Education and Computer Applications and many more. These courses are available within the framework of 11 departments and 42 schools. Furthermore it is also the University also offers distance-education programs through its Centre for Distance and Visual Learning.
Hyderabad Central University (HCU) has signed numerous MoUs with international and national universities and institutions for initiatives such as student exchange programs as well as research and development joint degree programs and more. In the past, it has submitted over 50 patents across various streams such as Science, Life Science and Engineering & Technology. The university also provides scholarships and fellowships for students in the doctoral and PG programs. New and current students at UoH may also apply for scholarships provided through India's Government of India.
Campus
The campus of the University, spread over 2300 acres has a huge space of forest cover with three perennial and two seasonal lakes as well being rock formations that are typical that are typical of Deccan. The campus hosts 734 plants as well as 10 mammals, 15 reptiles, and 220 species of birds (at the time of last count). Some notable animals include deer spotted, hares, the porcupines, peacocks, along with wild boar. There is also an unprotected megalithic site.
A study, that ran over three years (1990-2010) revealed that of the plants that were found on campus 315 species were utilized as the traditional Indian medicine. The 39 plants are part of the group of plants facing the danger of becoming extinct. These lists were the outcome of fieldwork conducted on campus by faculty and students members.
The university is planning to conserve areas covered with the forest cover and wetlands, by establishing a bio-reserve.
Hyderabad University Faculty
The faculty of the university are highly educated professors who are totally committed to their field and have vast knowledge of their area of expertise. A majority of associate professors have degrees from top institutions like IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, Pune university etc. Most faculty have an Ph.D degree. Faculty members are extremely committed and have an approach that is professional to their work.

Library: Library is the largest print collection, which is around four lakhs that comprises textbooks, journals and monographs among others. The library also has more than 25000 electronic resources along with e-books. It also provides modern facilities for its students like wifi.
Hostel The hostels are that cater to student i.e thirteen for males and eight for girls. All the essential facilities are offered in the hostel , and the rooms are very comfortable. The hostel is situated on both campuses to ensure that students are close to research departments.
Food Court: There's approximately seven canteens within the campus that provide breakfast lunch, dinner and breakfast for the students.
Infrastructure Services: four multi-purpose auditoriums that have 700 seats. The auditorium is used primarily for events of the cultural nature. The campus also includes shopping facilities.

The school has been ranked as the 4th-best in the nation by NIRF.
Hyderabad University has been ranked 10th in the list Institutes of National Importance.
UoH is ranked within the range of 651 to 700 on the World by QS Rankings 2022.
The university was rated as a result of NISSAT of the DSIR, Government of India as the only institution in the High output-High impact category, among the top 50 universities in India.
