Around 12,000 students are enrolled in one of the 128 educational programs. The majority of the courses are taught in Dutch however 59 of them students are offered in English. In accordance with the Bologna process the university has introduced the bachelor-master system. This means that it awards four kinds of degrees: master's, bachelor's Master after master's and doctoral .
Academic year can be split into two semesters that each span thirteen weeks of course: the first semester begins from October through January, while the second semester runs is from February through June. Students sit for exams between the months of January and June. In addition to the Easter and Christmas holidays (both lasting for two weeks) which are typically used to prepare for examinations, students are free throughout the time between the semesters as well as during summer break from July to September.

The city is located in the centre of Europe, Brussels is the capital city of Belgium. The four campuses of VUB are situated within the center of Brussels and allow students to feel the energy of a city that is capital on the one hand , but to enjoy the peace of the compact and green campuses on the other.
Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus
The majority of faculties are situated within Etterbeek campus. Etterbeek campus (which is actually situated within the boundaries of the neighbouring town that is Elsene). It is the more lively than the other campuses. It comprises a majority of concrete structures, the majority constructed in the 1970s. Certain structures are deteriorating quickly, however, at least one of them, the Rectoraat created by RenaatBraem is listed as a heritage site. There are numerous auditoriums and laboratories. There is also an upscale sports center with a football field surrounded by a running track and a pool.
Brussels Health Campus
The campus located in Jette can also be described as a full-fledged campus. There is also the University Hospital (UZ Brussel [nlUZ Brussel [nl]) is located in close proximity. Research and all courses related to biomedical sciences (medicine dental, pharmacy as well as paramedical and biomedical sciences) are available here.
Brussels Technology Campus
The campus Kaai in Anderlecht was established in 2013 and shared with the ErasmushogeschoolBrussel. It is home to its Industrial Engineering section of the Faculty of Engineering. Alongside the numerous industrial laboratories and the Brussels fablab has expanded to become the center of activity on campus in recent times.
