1881 was the University of Connecticut. It was founded as Storrs Agricultural School. The land and money were donated by Charles Storrs, Augustus Storrs, and Charles Storrs. On the 28th September, classes were opened to 13 students and three faculty members. It was renamed Storrs Agricultural College 1893, Connecticut Agricultural College 1899, and Connecticut State College 1933. In 1939, it became the University of Connecticut. The university currently has 14 colleges and schools. It also holds the accreditation of Association of American Universities.

The university's main Campus is located in Storrs and offers many recreational and academic facilities. There are four other regional campuses throughout Connecticut. The Avery Point campus offers education in maritime and marine sciences. The UConn Stamford campus is close to New York City, and is well-known for its Business-related degrees. While the Hartford Campus can be found in Downtown Hartford, and is known for Humanities-related degrees. The university also has a campus located in Waterbury.

It is located near the State Capitol and has its own campus. The UConn Health Campus is in Farmington. It includes the UConn John Dempsey Hospital which provides outpatient care, University Dentists and the UConn School of Medicine. The University spends $258 million on research, and $213 millions in scholarships and grants.

Some of the most notable alumni include Bobby Moynihan, who is a popular actor and impressionist who has also appeared on "Saturday Night Live", Jackie Burns, who is a Broadway actress who acted as Elphaba in "Wicked", and Chris Donovan, who is a TV producer and director. Franklin Chang-Diaz, CEO of Ad Astra Rocket Co., is T. Scott Case is a two-time NBA All-Star and Ray Allen, while Diana Taurasi has won three WNBA championships.
