The National University of Costa Rica (in Spanish, Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica which is abbreviated as UNA) is the largest of the five universities that are public located in the Republic of Costa Rica, located in Central America. This is the main university in Heredia, the capital city. Heredia. According to recent studies in the international arena, the National University of Costa Rica is ranked as 85th within Latin America and 1576th in the world. More than 12,000 students are enrolled on the main campus. Alongside providing a comprehensive undergraduate program, It also provides sixteen Master of Arts degrees. It is renowned for its outstanding programs in sociology, ecology and education. Former legislator from the Citizen Action Party (PAC), Alberto Salom Echeverria, is the new director of the National University of Costa Rica (UNA) from 2015 to 2020.

University of Costa Rica Campus

The main campus of UNA The main campus of UNA, known as known as the Omar Dengo Campus, is located in Heredia, Costa Rica and includes the facilities for the administration as well as most of the college buildings. The other campuses are located in the Benjamin Nunez Campus, named in honor of Benjamin Nunez, the founder of UNA, Benjamin Nunez. He was the founder of National University and its first president (1973-1977). The main campus was named after the famed Costa Rican educator, Omar Dengo Guerrero who completed his educational career in the Normal School of Costa Rica and later was transformed into the National University. In recent times, there have been attempts to modernize the campus' infrastructure with the UNA-BCIE Agreement, which was designed to improve several of the older buildings, including those of the College of the Arts and College of Social Sciences Buildings.
