Sultan Qaboos University opened in Muscat, the capital city of Oman, in 1986 in the beginning, there were only 500 students. It now has over 7,000 students. It is located in a valley under the Oman Mountains and is the only University of public importance in the country. The school was initially home to five colleges. However, there are now nine colleges in all. This includes engineering, medicine and agriculture, education sciences, arts, commerce and economics law, and nursing. The structures on campus are made of pink and white sandstones and are built along an axis, with the other end facing towards Mecca. There is a mosque at the university, as well as a large majority of buildings, have a prayer space. There are separate entrances to buildings for women and men as well as separate seating in classrooms. There are two sports facilities - one for male students and the other specifically for female students. Each of them has football fields, athletics fields, volleyball courts, outdoor stadiums, indoor sports halls, pools, and squash courts. But the city of Muscat itself, surrounded by mountain ranges and it's the Persian Gulf, also has plenty to offer, such as Muscat's Mutrah Souk, large parks, malls, beaches, and dunes. Between 2010 and 2015, the University attracted students from 38 nations and academics from 69 countries. It also cooperates with international universities and also has partnerships with institutions across Asia, Europe, Australasia, North America, and South America. The University has seven core values. These include excellence, professionalism, commitment to honesty, loyalty, and equity. Most students who attend the institution are selected according to their performance in the final exams of their high school. The student population has increased from 500 students in the year 1986 to more than 10,000 by 2005. Over half of students are outside campus due to the space limitations. The campus currently houses around 15,357 students. Of them, 7,942 females are students, and 7,415 are males.

Sultan Qaboos University History
The construction began in 1982, with the construction of the University beginning in 1982. The first Sultan Qaboos University students were accepted in the year 1986. According to the Royal Instructions of His Majesty the Queen, The University commenced with five colleges, namely Medical, Engineering, Agriculture, Education, and Science. Additionally, The College of Arts was established in 1987 following an earlier College of Commerce and Economics that was established in 1993.

Services for Housing
The section for international students helps international postgraduate students with finding suitable accommodation near the University. The accommodation provided to postgraduate students is away from the campus of the University. However, it is only a 5 minutes drive from SQU.
Library Services
The University has the main library as well as two specialized ones (medical and commercial). Additionally, there are four support libraries located in the colleges and within the Mosque. The SQU libraries offer physical collections, as well as electronic resources on the campus network and the Internet, and the interlibrary lending service.
ICT-related Services
The University offers an Intranet along with Internet servers to support web hosting and email. Postgraduate students can avail themselves of their Internet access through their CIS (Center to Information Systems).
Medical Services
Sultan Qaboos University provides free healthcare to all postgraduates, including international students in Sultan Qaboos University's Students Clinic and Sultan Qaboos University Hospital. International students are accountable for the costs of any treatment incurred through seeking external medical services.
