The main building houses the administration and faculty hall. It is classically designed, with a handsome tower in grey. Gilbert Bayes's work surrounds it, a monument erected in memory of J. N. Tata. An inscription is placed at its feet to remind future generations about the generosity of Jamsetji Tata, and the perseverance with which he worked towards the welfare of India. This building is a landmark in Bangalore and was designed by C. F. Stevens and Company, Bombay, between 1912-13.
Otto Königsberger, a German architect, designed the buildings for the aerospace and metallurgy departments in 1940.
Challakere has a second campus, located on 1,500 acres (6 km2) of land. The infrastructure developed here includes the Talent Development Centre and Skill Development Centre, which were funded by HAL under CSR Act. A Solar Power Research Center was also built. Alumni associations
IISc has an alumni association (AA), in Bangalore, and branches all over the world, including the USA (IISCAANA). Recent disputes have involved a parent association. One reason appears to be attempted by some to allow non-IISc degree holders into the AA. IISC AANA creates a similar situation by allowing multiple non-IISc members to be active in the team. IIScAANA allows individuals who have not completed a degree to be members. To qualify for membership, you must add the clause that you have completed at least one semester of IISc coursework.
