Carleton University is a public research university located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1942 as Carleton College, the institution began as an evening, private, non-denominational college for those returning World War II veterans.Carleton was founded as a university in 1952 through the province's government in the year 1952, under the Carleton University Act in 1952, which was later amended in 1957 to give the institution its current name.The school is named after the now defunct Carleton County which comprised Ottawa as well. Ottawa at the time that the institution was established. Carleton County, in turn was named in honour to Guy Carleton, the 1st Baron Dorchester who was the the Governor-General in The Canadas from 1786 to 1796. The school moved to its present campus in 1959. It was it wasgrowing quickly in size during the 1960s when it was a result of the Ontario government increased funding for postsecondary institutions as well as expanded the access to higher education.
Carleton provides a wide range of academic courses, and is divided by faculties. There are several institutions that are highly regarded in their respective areas, such as The Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs and The Carleton School of Journalism, the School of Public Policy and Administration and the Sprott School of Business.
As of the year 2019, Carleton yearly enrolls about 27,000 undergraduates and over 4000 graduate students. Carleton is home to a 150-acre campus situated to the in the west from Old Ottawa South, close to The Glebe and Confederation Heights. It is bordered to the north by Dow's Lake and the Rideau Canal as well as Dow's Lake. It is also bordered further to it's South through and the Rideau River. Carleton is home to an alumni base of more than 15,000 around the world and has produced 6 Rhodes Scholars, 29 Royal Society Fellows and twenty recipients of the Order of Canada, 8 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship awardees, and three National Killam Award recipients.
Carleton plays in the U Sports league as the Carleton Ravens. They are the Carleton Ravens are nationally renowned for their basketball team of men and have been crowned seven times in a row with Canadian champions in the national tournament between 2006 and 2017 and fourteen out of 16 titles they have won since 2003.

There is both on-campus and off-campus accommodation available to Students at Carleton University. There are two different living arrangements at Carleton University's Residence Complex- traditional style and suite-style. applicants must make a an initial payment of CAD 887, which is the initial payment towards their fees for residence.
Traditional Style Residence: Dundas, Glengarry, Grenville, Lanark, Lennox and Addington, Renfrew, Russell, Stormont Houses
Suite-style Residences The residences are further divided based on the degree level for the students.
