Manchester University is a public research university in Manchester, England. The main campus is located on Oxford Road, south of Manchester City Centre. The main site of the university houses the majority of its facilities and is generally referred to as the campus; yet, Manchester is not a campus institution as the term is commonly understood. It is strategically positioned in Manchester, and its buildings are incorporated into the city's fabric, with non-university structures and main roads in between.

The campus is essentially shaped like a boot, with the foot aligned about south-west to north-east and connected to the broader southern half of the boot by an area of overlap between old UMIST and former VUM buildings; it is divided into two parts:

• North campus or Sackville Street Campus, centred on Sackville Street
• South campus or Oxford Road Campus, centred on Oxford Road.

The names are not officially recognised by the institution, although they are widely used, notably on parts of its website, and roughly correlate to the campuses of the former UMIST and Victoria University.

The major residential campus in Fallowfield is located around 2 miles (3.2 kilometres) south of the main site.

The University of Manchester Students' Union is the university's representative organisation and the largest students' union in the United Kingdom.
