Simon Fraser University (SFU) is a research-oriented public university located in British Columbia, Canada, comprising 3 campuses: Burnaby (main campus), Surrey, and Vancouver. Its 170-hectare (420-acre) principal Burnaby campus, located on Burnaby Mountain located 20 km (12 miles) away from the city of Vancouver It was established in 1965. It is home to around 30,000 pupils as well as 160,000 alumni. The university was established as a means of expanding the quality of education in Canada.
SFU is an affiliate of a variety of higher education national and international associations such as those of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, International Association of Universities, and Universities Canada. SFU is also in partnership with other institutions and universities to manage joint research facilities , such as the TRIUMF the national laboratory of Canada for nuclear and particle Physics, which is home to the world's largest cyclotron and the Bamfield Marine Station, a significant centre of studying and teaching marine biology.
