Arizona State Institution (ASU) is a public research university located in the Phoenix metropolitan area. ASU is one of the largest public colleges in the United States by enrollment, having been founded in 1885 by the 13th Arizona Territorial Legislature.
ASU is one of three institutions overseen by the Arizona Board of Regents and is rated as "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very High Research Activity" by the Universities Research Association.
